It’s sad but true: Pigs get a bad press. O.K., so they’re clumsy and pretty sloppy eaters, but is that really such a crime? Homer Simpson’s made a career out of it! Here's an attempt to make amends with this species of clever, loving and rather surprisingly clean animals.
Miss Piggy
Love her or hate her (Who moi) Miss Piggy is undoubtedly a pig with attitude. Star of "The Muppet Show and numerous movies, she"s the holder of a pink belt in the ancient martial art of "Pig Wan Do" and author of the New York Times, Best Selling List, chart topper "Miss Piggy"s Guide to Life'. Best known for covering Kermit the Frog in either kisses or karate chops she's a pig you ignore at your peril.
Babe
Come on, everyone loves a talking pig!
Babe's a comparative newcomer to pig stardom as he only started his rise to fame and fortune in 1983 when the author Dick King-Smith immortalised him in "The Sheep-Pig". Since then though, Babe has been no slouch in scrambling to the top, we're talking films, sequels and even an Oscar. Not bad for a pig that just wanted to be a sheep dog.
Porky Pig
Famous for the immortal line "Th-th-th-that's all folks!" Porky was one of Warner Brothers' first animated stars. In fact until the arrival of Daffy Duck in 1937, Porky was bringing home the bacon, making mega-bucks and living high on the hog's back. But then times changed and Porky became mainly relegated to sidekick status. Mind you what a sidekick - he's shared the screen with the best, including Bugs, Sylvester, Daffy, Tinkerbell and unsurprisingly he's still going strong.
Hamm
Star of the "Toy Story" films, Hamm's you average everyday wise-cracking plastic piggy bank. Best friends with Mr. Potato Head, Hamms the kind of pig you can depend on in a crisis. Currently he and the rest of the Toy Story gang are busy filming Toy Story 3. A new 3D animated extravaganza which is due to hit the theatres in 2010.
The Three Little Pigs
These guys have been around for ages, in fact when you come to think of it they were probably your first introduction to the porcine species. As with most families, there's the clever one (builds his house with bricks). The one who gets it right some of the time (builds his house with sticks) and then theres the party dude (that's right a house made of straw, just what had he'd been drinking the night before?) Over their careers these pigs have not only appeared in fairy stories but films, cartoons and an all time classic song by the American comedy heavy metal/punk rock group "Green Jelly".
