I really think we need to start a global campaign to make MTV change its name.
I admit I gave up years ago watching the channel. I used to like I though. When it actually played music videos that is. Not only does the recent format air more "shows" and less music, but the shows are really lame and produced at a college film class level. Okay well that part is more my opinion but that is reason number two why I don't watch.
Returning to the original concept though, why call yourself Music television if you aren't committed to music television? And don't get me started on the sister network VH1. I don't know what that is. Is their any more has beens left that need romance or should I just say sex? Any more C list celebrities that need their so called daily life exposed?
Ever since the predetermined outcome Real World, MTV has postured itself as a trendy network targeting hormonal challenged kids network. Come to think of it most of the videos are based on the same theme.
Maybe I am just getting older? Maybe I have a conscience now?
Okay getting back on track again. Moral content aside it is called music television. So hasn't this become a false advertising issue? Why don't they have a separate network for the bogus reality shows?
Or if all else fails can we at least make them use a lower case m?
I agree with you. CMT does the same thing. They have more movies than country music videos. I used to watch MTV, a long time ago, when they actually played music. I guess those times are gone now. Good article!

Aint that the truth, i made that observation a few years ago too. And it's not because you are getting old dude.
There are more sex...er i mean dating shows and so called reality shows on MTV than anything else. Mkaing superstars out of talentless people that have no business being in the public eye.
It's because of cahnnels like MTV and E, that kids are now dropping out of school chasing the dream of becoming reality tv stars. Wahtever happened to working hard and the struggle actors,bands and musiciansm the testing period they had to get where they are> These days , do something crazy on tv for a few days and you get book deal.
Anyways i gave up on MTV years ago the more and more depraved and morally declined(with they didn't have much to begin with) they became in their "entertainment" , the more i withdrew.
