Did You Watch The MTV Award Show?

My comments about this year's MTV music video award show. I watch the show every year religiously and I was so let down this year.

I have been an MTV fan since MTV was put on the air, which seems like an eternity ago. I look forward to watching the MTV award show more then any other music award show. I have watched it religiously for years. For the past two years I have just recorded it so that I don't miss anything and if there is something that I don't want to watch I can fast forward it. Plus I don't have to sit through commercials and that is always a plus!

So I recorded four hours worth of the show this year. I always watch the opening show to see who shows up and who is with who. That is one of my favorite parts of the show. Well this year MTV decided to do the show in Las Vegas. Now I have nothing against Las Vegas personally, in fact I love Vegas. Let me just say that Las Vegas is really not a good place to host an award show! There is too much going on there for one thing. It might be a great place for the people that are right there at the show live, but for TV viewing?? No, No, No! It was really hard watching the show this way.

First of all it was way too busy. There were too many things going on all over the place and it didn't make for good viewing on our end. I enjoy watching the stars arrive and you couldn't really tell who was coming in at all. They still interviewed some people and that was probably the best part of the opening show.

Then the opening act. Miss Britney Spears was the highly anticipated opening act. Let me just say that when they say that the girl is a mess, they are not exaggerating one bit! I am not talking about her as a mother or even as a person. I am talking about her as a performer.

Now, I have never been a Britney Spears fan, but when she performed live it was always exciting to watch. She either really shocked you or blew you away with her dancing. This time, there seemed to be no shock value at all. She even looked like she almost didn't want to even be there. She hardly danced at all, and what she did do was definitely not called dancing. She didn't sing live, which probably was a good thing but dancing used to be her excuse for not singing live sometimes because when they dance so hard it is sometimes hard to sing live.

That was not the problem here at all. She just wasn't the Britney that she used to be in any way shape or form. After seeing that performance I am not looking forward to any of her videos and even those used to be pretty cool from her.

Then they had Sarah Silverman come out and offend as many people as she could and even that seemed pretty strained. It almost seemed like the crowd wasn't even paying attention most of the time and again that has to do with the show being in Vegas. They didn't have the quality performances that they usually have due to the fact that there were four different parties going on at the same time as the show and the performers were all over the place. There were a couple of decent performances, Alicia Keys was good, Rhianna was decent, Kanye was decent.

Justin and Timbaland and Nelly Furtado were good, but Chris Brown blew everyone away. That boy tore it up big time. He should have actually either been the opening act or the closing act I think. They didn't have any old bands come back this time and do anything crazy. I kind of missed that being an old school MTV watcher.

The awards given away were even sad. First of all when they announced the performers that were nominated, they did it so fast and jumbled that you could not even see who was nominated. There were no decent speeches besides maybe Justin's. Fergie won for best female and she wasn't there and it looked like Luda was going to accept it for her but he didn't even go up.

The whole show was just so upsetting for a fan like me that always watches. I never miss an MTV award show, but this next year I might not tune in. I know things have to change and move forward all the time, but why ruin a good thing? First MTV took videos away from us and now they turn the MTV award show upside down.

Do me a favor MTV employees or whoever might come across this, please please please start playing videos again like Justin Timberlake said and give us back the awesome programming that most of us MTV fans fell in love with. Just my little two cents about the award show. I hope y'all had a better time watching it then I did.
