Is it just me, or is The Maury show just a little morally challenged? How many young women (many of whom are teenagers) have illegitimate children? Not only that but these women don't even know who the father's are.
Not for a minute do I doubt that teenage pregnancy is a huge problem but I can't help but feel that The Maury Show exploits the problem. I also think it encourages it to some degree. Somebody is making money off of this show and even if the guests are actually actors, there is a definite message being sent out.
There have been young mothers on the show that have been on six or seven times accusing different men of being their child's father. This leads me to the question: What do these girls do in their spare time? Seriously though, we all know the problem exists but to use it as entertainment is sorely lacking in moral judgement. You cannot argue that it is informative since the only thing I'm going to get out of this is finally finding out who that poor child's father really is! It also cannot be called entertainment. What entertainment can you possibly get out of an unwanted pregnancy, a woman being called every vulgar name under the sun and a child who will probably never know their father? I hope to heaven the children they show (supposedly in the green room) don't grow up and see their faces splashed all over the T.V. announcing to the world that their mother had no idea which of several men (if any) was their father.
Maury and the producers of the Maury Show should be ashamed on themselves. If the networks who carry shows like this are going to do that they should at least contribute to some charity who is actually interested in helping women like these instead of exploiting them and their children.
The media is a powerful tool if used wisely, if not, its ability to corrupt is equally powerful.
