I know it's the job of a daytime talk show host to get ratings. Ratings sell, and that means a fatter paycheck for these gossip-mongers that bored housewives can't get enough of, yours truly included.
Anyway, I must now used that tried and true line of all shocked daytime television show viewers. I thought I had seen everything before yesterday's episode “The Secret Lives Of Gay Housewives.”
The title says it all. No description of the show needed, but the first housewife up shocked me, the audience, even Oprah so she says.
First the woman claims being pregnant with a daughter helped her realize that she was a lesbian. Then she says that she was always attracted to her female friends, but had no idea being lesbian or having a gay lifestyle existed. Then things got weird.
She claims that she always enjoyed having sex with her husband. That's not a lesbian, that's a bi-sexual. She says she still loves him and that breaking the news to him was hard. They went to a nice restaurant and she told him over dinner. They tried to make it work but couldn't. Enter the husband.
He wasn't helping matters. In fact, he did more than his fair share to help destroy the marriage. After feeding Oprah the same lines his wife did about heterosexual sex and lifestyles he said he was OK with his wife's lifestyle choice because he's gay! That's right. A gay man married to a lesbian and the proud parents of two boys and a girl.
Where do you find these people? How do you prove it's not scripted? And what to say about the teen age son who says he's proud of his parents for coming out of the closet?
