Beverly Crusher of Star Trek, The Next Generation is a role model. She is the Doctor aboard the Enterprise-D, and mother to Wesley Crusher. She and her deceased husband, Jack Crusher (who served under Jean Luc Picard on the USS Stargazer) are members of Starfleet, and Beverly now serves under Picard. Her relationship with Picard is very strong, and almost romantic. They often dine together.
Crusher, like any other doctor, works to saves lives. Her first thoughts are always for people who are injured. Even though Crusher finds it fulfilling to be a doctor, she is always striving to be more, and to learn more. Besides for seeking and learning new medical procedures, she always learns more command training, and puts in the hours while on the Enterprise honing that skill.
Crusher medical training does not just come from Starfleet Medical, but also from her grandmother who taught her how to work with roots and herbs. This can be a great resource while on an away mission if she is unable to get what she needs from her medical kit. Her parents died when she was very young and she lived on a colony planet with her grandmother.
In her free time she is gardening, acting, dancing, directing, playing poker with her friends, and of course, reading. Crusher is very feminine in nature, and when she went with Picard into the holodeck to explore, she expressed great feminism by copying other female actions by characters. Unfortunately the females she was copying were hookers.
Data trusts Crusher, as when the Enterprise found Lore and he was turned on, he entrusted her with the knowledge of the whereabouts of his on/off switch. She directed Will Riker in a play. At times she consoles with Deanna Troi when medical and psychological are in play concerning something they are dealing with. At times she will work with Georgi Laforge also when engineering and medical overlap.
Crusher is always looking to explore and discover, that is why she chooses Starfleet. She wants the same for her son Wesley, who she stands up for at times when it comes to matters on the bridge concerning Picard. She is not afraid to speak up for herself. She also has enough confidence in herself to trust her judgment when she has to solve problems which are strictly scientific and have nothing to do with medical. In terms of a career and her personality, Starfleet was the right choice for her.
