Tara Maclay of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a role model. Tara met the Scooby gang while in college at UC Sunnydale. She had joined the Wicca group, along with Willow Rosenberg. She started seeing Willow after her relationship with Oz ended. To their disappointment the group enjoyed Wicca but had no interest in doing any spells, they were more interested in bake sales. Because both Tara and Willow felt the same way about magic, they drifted together. Willow began to spend more and more time with Tara and soon they were at the start of a relationship. Tara was so important to Willow; she wanted to keep Tara all to herself before introducing her to her best friends. They were soon a lesbian couple. Tara was very practiced in the ways of witchcraft and could see people's auras.
Tara had a very tough life. Her family did not believe in magic. Her father would call her mother and eventually Tara a demon. In addition, if she practiced magic the demon would come out of her. Apparently, her mother had tried to practice before she died, but her husband would not let her. After her mother died, Tara was forced to take care of her family. The truth was that the fact that she was demon was all a lie. Her father wanted to keep the women in their place and have them do what they were told.
When Willow introduced Tara to Buffy Summers, Rupert Giles, Xander Harris, Anya Jenkins, and Reilly Finn they welcomed her with open arms. In fact, at times both Buffy and her sister Dawn would go to Tara for advice.
When Buffy faced off against the all-powerful Glory who was looking for the key, Tara was caught in the crossfire, and Glory hurt Tara. She stripped of who she was. Willow did take care of her; in fact, she took revenge upon Glory for what she did to Tara.
Tara at one time became very upset with Willow. She was using much too much magic. In addition, to make things better Willow would just erase Tara's memory. Tara soon discovered what Willow was doing and she broke up with her. Tara had trusted that Willow would not use her magic on her.
Eventually they reunited, as Willow had gone cold turkey with using magic. Just as things seemed to be going right between Willow and Tara, something terrible happened. Warren Mears shot Tara. A stray bullet hit her. Willow was so upset under the circumstances she took revenge on Warren.
