Jonathan Kent is an excellent role model on the television series Smallville. He is always watching out for his adopted son, Clark who happens to be an alien from another planet with special powers. His wife, Martha, is always ready to back him up.
He often gets mad at his son when he says he is going to try out for sports because he is afraid Clark is going to hurt someone or Clark is going to be seen. They do not want him to end up being a lab rat. He, along with Martha, is always very proud of him. He had that strong feeling when he met Faylain, a dirty police detective, who saw Clark save a bus in Metropolis. He blackmailed Clark, but Jonathan tried to protect him. You could see this situation brought out his hot temper.
When Clark rescued Lex Luthor after he hit Clark going 60 mph over a bridge, the first thing Jonathan did is tell Clark what the Luthors' were capable of doing and have done to people he knows. He does not want to be taken advantage of by Lex Luthor or his father. He feels the same way about Lionel, Lex's father.
Jonathan is very protective of his son. He, along with Martha, always makes sure that Clark is doing chores around the house. Like a father. In addition, like any parents, when Jonathan and Martha went away from their anniversary and learned Clark had a party at the house, he was punished like any other normal teenager.
He is definitely the protective father.
