This past winter left me balancing between stations in order to be able to see all of the reality television shows that I love to watch that just so happened to be on at the same time. I had to tivo two of them and had to flip back and forth between the other two. The four shows I watched were American Idol, The Biggest Loser, Big Brother, and Dancing with the Stars.
I thought about how many reality television shows that have become some of my favorites and imagine yours as well. They continue to return each year which shows that it has been successful and well received by viewers.
There are a number of programs that are being aired for the summer that we will need to watch out for if they aren't on already. America's Best Dance Crew is beginning its second season. I love this show. I love the idea and it stands out from any other dance show since it isn't dealing with celebrities and is focusing on street dance. Celebracadabra is almost finished with the finale airing Thursday, but this is one of the best reality shows to date. It is completely different and original. The concept is to teach celebrities how to do magic tricks. It has some very cool stuff that these people do. Big Brother is returning for its next season this summer and So You Think You Can Dance has returned for another season last week.
My favorite reality shows vary in order but I am a big fan of many of the programs and they go as follows:
- American Idol
- Big Brother
- So You Think You Can Dance
- America's Next Dance Crew
- Celebracadabra
- Search for the Next Coyote Ugly
- Dancing with the Stars
- The Biggest Loser
- Dance War: Bruno vs Carrie Ann
- Flavor of Love and I love New York
The worst reality shows have to be
- The Hills
- Search for the next Pussycat Doll
- Living Lohan
- Keeping up with the Kardashians (even though I like Bruce Jenner and his wife, the older girls tend to be really annoying)
- Snoop Dogg: Fatherhood
- Tila Tequila: A shot at love
- Celebrity Apprentice
- The Mole
There are a number of reality shows that can go either way with me. I could take it or leave it. Some shows really rely on the people they select to be on the show on whether or not I would care to watch. For instance, Next Top Model relies heavily on the contestants and if you care about them or if there is one in particular you hope wins. Many seasons have passed that I didn't bother to watch since I didn't like anyone they selected.
Other shows that are similar are Survivor, Celebrity Fit Club, Top Chef, America's Got Talent, and the Amazing Race. These all rely solely on the people they have on the show in order for it to work so they better get interesting personalities that aren't so strange they are annoying or those that you just can't be bothered watching. They all have to be able to relate to others and make people watch them and care if they win or lose. Same goes for any celebrity. Sometimes it's fun to love to hate someone on tv and it makes good ratings. But the ratings can drop if no one cares either way.
Other reality shows that may not be my top 10 choices but I still enjoy watching them are Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Charmed School (even though they haven't come up with a second season yet), Can You Duet, Miss Rapper Supreme, Cheaters, and the Girls Next Door. I don't go out of my way to watch any of these shows but I happen to catch them I can't help but watch them.
