Pinoy Dream Academy: 6th Gala Night

The content is about Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2. The top talent show in the Philippines as of the moment.

Pinoy dream academy's 6th gala and probation night was held last July 26, 2008 at the PDA concert hall. The theme was Trios where in most of the scholars were grouped in threes to perform one acapella and another, an upbeat song. The judges were Gerard Salonga, Louie Ocampo together with the guest judge, Verni Varga.

Trio no. 1: Bugoy, Van and Sen

They sang Tearing Up My Heart by N*Sync for their upbeat song. It was loved by the judges specifically Gerard who thought that they can be a new boyband. For the acapella, Yesterday by The Beatles was their song. Gerard gave them a perfect 10 for their acapella performance. This trio ruled the 6th gala night.

Trio no. 2: Cris, Bunny and Liezel

With cute dances ala Spice Girls, they sang Stop. The judges also liked the performance. For the acapella, they sang The Tide is High which was originally sung by Blondie and revived by Atomic Kitten. I personally liked liked Liezel's and Bunny's parts.

Trio no. 3: Laarni, Miguel and Apple

They sang an Earth, Wind and Fire original, Let's Groove. It was fun and alive at the beginning but scrutinizing their voices, the judges agreed that they didn't gel. Maybe it was because of their personalities? Or maybe it was hard for a trio with two girls and a boy unlike the other two trios. Their acapella song was Too Much Heaven by The Bee Gees.

Duo: Iñaki and Christian

They had a duet with a song by APO Hiking Society called Panalangin. The judges didn't like the performance very much. For me, their voices are incompatible too. For their solos, Iñaki sang a Josh Groban hit, To Where You Are while Christian sang a praise song, Shout for Joy by Gary Valenciano.

It was Christian who sang his last for the PDA season 2. He got less text votes, so Iñaki stayed. He sang the song Shout for Joy once again trying to keep his composure. He really showed a kind of strength during his whole stay in the academy. I salute him for that.

A big surprise for the academy is the reveling of the honorary scholar, Poy. She was one of four scholars in the waiting list along with Jet. But Jet was the chosen one then for he had many text votes. Poy was the third then, I wonder why they didn't chose the second one who is a man who has a nice rocker voice. Anyway, Poy or Catherine Palma sang I Don't Want to Miss A Thing, Regine Velasquez's version i think. The song is not perfect, she even had some mess ups. But it's still okay. She has a competing voice and personality.

Next up, Face off! For the 7th gala night of PDA 2, It will be a one on one for the scholars. Let's wait for that.
