Well the Miss Universe pageant was on recently because there was nothing better on and I had zero motivation to find anything else to do, so I decided to watch the last 15 or 20 minutes. Of course this is after the swimsuit competition so I basically missed the best part of the entire thing and came in when the women were showing off their evening gowns and answering the questions the judges had for them. Although their answers or lack of answers to the questions made me laugh a little bit to myself because they definitely played out the stereotype that is labeled to pageant women or whatever you call them. I guess their answers could have been a result of the language barrier but most of them made very little sense (probably a lot like this article).
Most people have seen the video or heard of the video with Miss teen South Carolina and heard her completely asinine answer to the question that was given to her. People like her that are completely ignorant and have no real understanding of the world make me sad, but I know that her parents probably raised her to just be superduper pretty and didn't emphasize education or intelligence as anything that she needed.
Anyways back to the Miss universe pageant and it's awesomeness. I find it funny that people can actually make their life goal to win the Miss universe pageant, because I don't understand what they do exactly, are they just supposed to be models or something? But if they were models then why did they have to go through this entire competition just to become models? I guess I could just look up what their duties are, and I do remember some part in the show that they talked about what the winner would receive and it was something like a free year living in some classy apartment with a whole bunch of free stuff that they get to do and wear. But what happens after this year of living on free stuff?
Well after a little bit of research (a very little bit), I looked at some of the past titleholders and the current titleholder most of them were at some point or are still models. Basically the pageant seems to just be another way for these women to get themselves out there and increase their status with other modeling agencies and give them other possible opportunities. It's strange I would never have expected so many of the past winners to have completed college or focused on anything other than being a beauty pageant winner.
As an example, Miss Russia Oxana Fedorova in 2002 was crowned Miss universe and after her reign became a police officer and actually rose to the rank of major in 2005. So in writing this article about how I thought that all Miss universe contestants have/had no other goals or aspirations than becoming the next Miss universe, I found that many of the ones that win are the ones that have other focuses in their life.
