A while ago I read about the latest in American Idol, the seventh season and of course the favorite, David cook. As I read the article it occurs to me, is it really right for this show to have a winner based on text votes? Doesn't it mar the meaning of the word great singers? Or the word “great” really depends on how many people patronize you and not on how good you are in the particular career you chose?
I don't have anything against David Cook or anyone in the competition. Besides they have proven their worth. Kelly Clarkson for one, she made her songs to reach the top of any countdown. Received awards and after few years after she won still making great songs. Thanks to her fans around the world. And I am not ashamed to admit I am one of them. But still the question still haunts me. There are many people who have wonderful voices but why can't they make it in this industry? Why do the people around them don't see the talent the way it should be seen?
As I ponder on these things, it occurs to me that maybe talent is not enough. It should be coupled with charisma at passion for your art. Charisma, for the people to hear you. Passion, for them to realize that love is in what you do.
I hope that as our version of American Idol progress, the aspirants would realize these and do their best and in the end rise above others.
