Summertime TV replacement shows aren't meant to be nominated for Emmy Awards, but if there were an Emmy for Stupid, America's Got Talent (AGT) is a sure winner. If you haven't watched AGT it may be a sign your have a higher IQ that viewers like me. Produced as an American Idol look alike, this show may just be the final nail in the coffin for network TV, especially NBC.
Just in case you might think that I am alone voice in the wilderness, take a look at what other AGT viewers are saying: "I will not watch NBC on anything they show"; "I am through with the show"; "Letting Boy Shakira through is a sham"; "The judges sucked"; "cannot believe I have wasted my time watching this show!"; "As of now, my remote skips NBC."
The majority of the viewers emailing these types of comments to NBC had a common thread that allowing the contestant known as "Boy Shakira" go through to the next round of competition was the last straw. If AGT producers hoped to increase their ratings it may have just backfired. It has generated thousands, if not millions of negative emails to NBC.
AGT has defined TV wasteland. If producers were attempting to be number one in the running for the Emmy Award for Stupid they are successful. If they were trying to entertain their viewers they not only failed, but have certainly also lost many viewers.
But, hey we live in a land of free speech and AGT producers have a right to do what they want on their own TV show. The viewing public also has a right to switch channels. For me, I will be exercising my right to switch channels. It will be interesting to see how far ratings drop before AGT producers apologize to their viewers.
