The Bachelorette: Deanna Takes a Stand

DeAnna Pappas experienced heartbreak during the season finale of The Bachelor; now she is back for a second chance at romance. Will she find true love with one of the 25 bachelors vying for her heart on this season of ABC’s The Bachelorette?

DeAnna Pappas was certain she'd receive a rose from Brad Womack during the season finale of The Bachelor; instead, she was sent home heartbroken when Womack decided that even though she was the winning contestant, she wasn't the one for him.

Now DeAnna is back in the newest season of The Bachelorette, determined to get it right and find true love and a fairytale ending. I've never been a fan of The Bachelor series, as I never really believed you could find everlasting love and a life partner by participating in a reality TV show.

However, I recently watched The Bachelor: London Calling with charming British bachelor Matthew Grant, and I enjoyed it so much I decided to give The Bachelorette a chance, too.

DeAnna Pappas is an excellent choice for ABC's The Bachelorette. Not only is DeAnna extremely attractive, I find her very open and vulnerable, and motivated to find the man of her dreams. I also think she is intelligent, warm, funny and self aware. The Bachelorette seems determined to use her head as well as her heart when selecting a romantic partner.

DeAnna Takes a Stand

This week on The Bachelorette, DeAnna took a stand with her remaining bachelors. The bachelors gathered with DeAnna to enjoy some quality time together, but the situation quickly deteriorated when for one reason or another, some of the men ignored her.

This prompted a very emotional reaction in DeAnna, and The Bachelorette showed some real spunk and backbone when through her tears and anger, she told the men that mind games and immature behavior would not be tolerated. The remaining bachelors on The Bachelorette would have to step up, be as genuinely open as DeAnna, and show a true interest in connecting with her, or they would not continue on the The Bachelorette.

I felt a bit sorry for the two bachelors Robert and Fred that had to go on a date with DeAnna after this explosive scene earlier in the day on The Bachelorette. After Robert went off by himself and shut DeAnna out during this episode of The Bachelorette, it wasn't hard to predict that she wouldn't give him a rose, and he'd be going home that evening.

What really surprised me was DeAnna's dismissal of sweet Fred at the end of this last episode of The Bachelorette. Even though DeAnna said that Fred was one of the nicest guys there, with the biggest heart, she simply felt no chemistry with him. I admire the fact that she didn't want to lead him on the way she felt she'd been led on by Brad Womack during The Bachelor.

Will DeAnna Pappas Find True Love?

Not being a fan of reality romance, I am surprised to find The Bachelorette very watchable and involving, and sometimes moving. I think what has begun to touch my heart about The Bachelorette is the raw vulnerability and openness of DeAnna Pappas as she seeks her true love.

Having been hurt so much by her experience on The Bachelor finale, DeAnna has some insight and wisdom about what it's like to feel heartbreak, confusion and betrayal. It can be a thorny road on the path to romance with many unforeseen twists and turns, and The Bachelorette gets this (but she never comes off as bitter or jaded, and in my opinion, this only adds to her appeal.)

I'm really enjoying this season of The Bachelorette with DeAnna Pappas, and I'm really looking forward to future episodes. I hope DeAnna finds the happy ending that eluded her at the season finale of The Bachelor.

Tune in this Monday night at 8 p.m. Eastern as The Bachelorette: DeAnna Tells All in a special one hour sit down with host Chris Harrison.
