In the final episode of the best fantasy drama series ever, Sam questions the ethics of Gene Hunt during a murder investigation. Frank Morgan, the inspector for Hyde tells Sam that if he can find evidence against Gene he would be able to get him back home to Hyde.
The conclusion of the episode sees the detectives go undercover, Gene as one of the robbers and the rest of the team as postal workers on a train. During the shootout with the robbers, Sam leaves the team trapped on the train under a hail of bullets while he tries to get back up from Frank Morgan. Frank gives him the choice to either stay and rescue his team or go back to the present day.
He reluctantly decides to go home where he awakes in a hospital bed greeted by, again Frank Morgan the surgeon. The ward he is situated in is called Hyde with the extension number 216.
Sam decides he dislikes his real life back in the present day and after a chat with his mum he jumps off the roof of the police station and returns back to 1973 to rescue the team from death. Sam goes back to life with Gene and the gang and avoids any voices wanting him to return back to present day.
There is discussion of a sequel to be aired in 2008 called “Ashes to Ashes” where Gene Hunt gets plucked from his life and goes into the future of the 1980's. It will be some programme if it is to match up to the standard of “Life on Mars”. I have every faith that it will and I can't wait!
