This is a list of my favorite anime of all time. I would recommend these to just about anyone. Why? Because they are amazing.
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi
This is one of the most unique anime I have seen. It is so unique, that Japan actually aired the episodes out of order. Yes, out of order, as in 1,2,5,8,10,14,7, etc. It is the story of a high school girl named Suzumiya Haruhi that is bored with the mundane routine of human life, and is look for something to spice it up. Aliens, Time Travelers, and E.S.P.ers are pulled into this story, and the only normal one in the group is a boy named Kyon. He narrates you through the various scenarios that come up in this wonderful anime. It has become more of a cult classic on the internet, and is going strong. There is a second season coming out soon-ish, and I will be looking foreword to it.
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro
This anime is one that is ridiculously hilarious and really serious at the same time. It is about a demon named Neuro who eat mysteries, but has run out of food in the demon world, so he decides to come to the human realm in search of the most delicious mystery ever. It is also about a girl named Yako whose father committed suicide, but she thinks that there is more to the story than that. They eventually team up and form a detective agency, because Neuro smells a delicious mystery on the girl, and the girl needs someone smart like Neuro to solve the crime. Together they solve various cases (with Yako as the detective, because demons tend to not know about human mannerisms and language) while looking for the truth behind Yako's father's death. It gets its hilarity from Neuro's personality combined with Yako's outgoingness, as well as the 777 demon tools and just some randomness. This is one anime series that I just cannot stop watching, and don't plan on stopping soon.
Fate/Stay Night
Ever wonder what would happen if heroes and legends were to have an epic battle to death over the Holy Grail? Yeah, that basically describes this anime really well. It is about a boy named Emiya Shiro who gets pulled into this “Holy Grail War” when he summons a Servant (a heroic soul) to his aid when he is attacked and almost killed by an enemy servant. The “Holy Grail War” itself is a tournament of heroic souls, the prize is the Holy Grail, which will grant one wish to its winner. There are seven classes of servants: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Caster, Berserker, and Assassin. This has a good way of keeping the whole thing balanced, for what class you get has its own strengths and weaknesses. With some of the best fight scenes I have ever seen, as well as amazing character development and twists, this gets my nomination for one of the best anime ever.
Hunter X Hunter
This is one of the most balanced shonen fighters I have ever seen. What I liked about Naruto at first, this anime kept, and did a terrific job of it. It is about a boy named Gon whose dad left him in his aunt's custody as a child and whose mom died. He eventually learns that his dad became a mega-famous “Hunter”. Hunters are people who can do a variety of things, from cooking the best of dishes to finding blacklist criminals. Gon decides he wants to become a Hunter, so he leaves to take the exam, where he meets friends along the way. They eventually learn about Nen, a type of aura, and that is where it gets even better but it keeps you remembering that everyone is human, that means attacks actually do what they are supposed to when they hit you, and no Dragonball Z syndrome where it just bounces off their chest or is deflected. This series is definitely one of my all-time favorites, and even though it may start off slow, it is worth the wait. With one of the most balanced energy systems I have ever seen, great character development, and each character's own side-plot, this is one that you cannot pass up.
With all of that being said, it is now time to tell you my absolute favorite anime of all time. What will it be? A super-powered fighter, a great thinker, or maybe something that is just all-around funny…My favorite anime of all time is…
Kanon (2006 remake)
Seem out of place? I thought it would. This anime is the best I have ever seen. It has it all, really deep plot, great humor, action, you name it, it is probably in here. But most importantly, it is one of the few anime that has ever made me cry. Yes, I cried. Hard. It is about a boy named Yuuichi who returns to a town after seven years. He doesn't remember much about the old town, or even why he left. Weird things start to happen around him, and slowly things return back to his mind. I know I didn't say much about this one, but I really can't without giving away major information. So just take my word for it, watch this, now! You will not regret it.
