Dragon ballz is one of the most successful anime of all time. Everyone enjoy the cool fight scenes, likeable characters and great humor. Everyone know the good side of dbz and the merits are discussed everywhere but no one really talks about the faults and bad habits of the franchise.
First of all the series wastes a lot of time on dialogue explaining what's going on. Even the most diehard fans of dragon ballz have gotten tired of watching a five minute dialogue of some new fighting technique or a past fight phase. Sometime you would just want them to shut up and get fighting but no super hyper powered beings are too much in love with the sound of their own voices.
It's a classic example of telling rather than showing and this is something that every writer should avoid.
The never ending levels of power: This is one of the worst habits of the series. Both the heroes and the villains have and endless level of power. The writer has made them all god-like. And the villains just start of in their weak forms and play around until goku start whooping their butts, and then they say something like this "So you think you have beaten me! I have only been toying with you and watch in terror as I become 5 times as powerful in my super level 2 form".
After this they go "muuhahahahahaha" for like three minutes after which they charge for another 3 minutes and then they transform. Most of the villains transform like five times!
Same old plot: The story or plot for dbz is extremely lame. Here is something that you can expect from dragon ballz. The aliens or bad guys come to capture or destroy the earth. Lot of "earthling s" are killed. Then the heroes fight back and most of them die. Then the heroes transform to their next level of power and destroy the bad guy after long episodes, endless battles (of which most of the time is spent in charging up) and lots of explaining. The fallen heroes are brought back by the dragon ballz and have a brief period of happiness after which another bad guy comes. Ahhhhh stop this insane cycle!!
This is a never ending show: This is the show that never ends. As you have read the plot is partly to blame for this. The dbz series contains 291 episodes which might have not been a bad thing if it wasn't for the same and lame plot. It goes something like this with goku saying "ok I am going to use my secret ability but I need a lot of energy for it". Then the whole episode is spent with goku charging and in the end the narrator saying "will goku ever charge up and use his secret ability? Find out in the next episode of dbz" Then at the end of the next episode he says "Now that goku has charged up will he ever use his secret ability? Find out in the next episode of dbz". You see what I mean.
Anyways apart from this dbz is an incredible anime and one of the most popular too
