10 Anime Series for Those Who Aren't Into Action

Are you tired of action anime like Gundam and Dragonball Z? Do you want to get into anime, but don’t like watching big muscular guys or giant robots beating each other up? Don’t fear, there are plenty of other choices out there.

  1. Azumanga Daioh

  2. Azumanga Daioh is a very cute anime about the everyday life of a bunch of high schoolers. It's very funny, with a very quirky type of humor. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something fun and lighthearted.

  3. Onegai Teacher

  4. Onegai Teacher is another quirky/funny type of anime, but this one has a more in depth plot. It also takes place in a high school. An alien comes to Earth, and becomes the teacher of a high school class, and one of her students falls in love with her. All kinds of crazy things happen.

There is a sequel, Onegai Twins, which follows a new plot, but takes place in the same area, and has a lot of familiar characters. If you enjoyed Onegai Teacher, you would probably enjoy Onegai Twins as well.

  5. Chobits

  6. Chobits is about this guy named Hideki who finds a Persocom (which is a computer in the shape of a person) laying outside in the trash. He takes her home, and finds that she is only capable of saying her name, but she is capable of learning. She is very childlike, in that way.

Chobits is very funny, but it also is serious at times, dealing with the issues of humans falling in love with their Persocoms.

  7. Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien

  8. A part of me is screaming not to recommend this, but another part of me absolutely loved this anime. It is very well done. The animation is beautiful, and the characters all feel like real people and you really feel for them. Pretty much every episode is a tearfest, so keep the tissues handy. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys very emotional things.

  9. Rozen Maiden

  10. After Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, you'll probably be needing something cute and light hearted. Rozen Maiden will provide that, for the first half anyway. It's about this boy who mysteriously gets this crazy living doll. And there are more of them, too. For the first few episodes, it is mostly just silly, but later on in the series, the plot gets a bit darker and more dramatic. Overall, it's a lot of fun, very well done, and definitely worth watching.

  11. Love Hina

  12. At the time that I first saw Love Hina, it was my favourite anime ever. It's a comedy/romance anime about a guy named Keitaro who is living in an all girls dorm. The girls are all fun, unique, and loveable in their own ways. Keitaro is a bit pathetic, but in an endearing way. Every episode is a bit funny, and overall it is very sweet and leaves you with a warm happy feeling.

Don't forget to watch the OVA, Love Hina Again. It is a lot of fun as well and it wraps up some loose ends.

  13. World of Narue

  14. Another one that's sweet and funny. World of Narue is about a girl who is half alien who is living on earth. A boy named Kazuto finds out about her secret. All kinds of crazy things happen. It's a lot of fun to watch too.

  15. DearS

  16. DearS is one of my favorite animes ever. It's very similar to Chobits, but it's shorter and a bit sillier. A bunch of aliens, called DearS, come to earth. A guy runs across one of them who is a bit defective. It's very funny, very sweet at times, and cute all the time.

  17. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

  18. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is about a girl named Haruhi who wants to meet aliens, time travelers, and espers. She starts a club called the SOS Brigade to find them. She doesn't know it, but one of the members is an alien, another is a time traveler, and another is an esper. And she isn't a normal human either. It's funny, it's weird, it's sweet. There's something in this anime for everyone.

  19. Welcome to the NHK

  20. Welcome to the NHK is the best anime ever. It's about the life of this guy who is a hikikiomori (which is basically someone who never leaves their home). He meets this girl who says she can fix him. He also finds out he lives next door to an old friend from high school. This anime made me laugh, cry, and it also made me think about a lot of things. The characters and the plot are amazing. There is no anime that even comes close.
