Captured is a television show by the well known producers of Snapped. Captured recounts the process that law enforcement goes through to track down some of the worst criminals. Snapped follows the stories of women who kill and the reasons why. I believe shows like "Captured" and "Snapped" are double edged swords. While they bring to light issues that are otherwise often ignored, such as domestic violence, they inadvertently give notoriety to the people they are profiling.
Do the benefits and lessons in such shows (such as encouraging people in abusive situations to get help) outweigh the fact that the criminals gain notoriety?
That is a difficult and controversial issue. However, I believe such shows should focus more on reminding people that no crime is without victims. In the case of Snapped, instead of giving these long biographies of how "normal" the people who commit crimes were priorly,
I believe these shows should focus on the lives of the victims. They should also emphasize that nothing justifies criminal behavior.
